Needing to hide a cable coax or electrical extension? Here's the answer. Difficult to find (I looked at the big box hardware stores) brown color that blends well with wood flooring. Eliminates trip hazards!

I could not find the right color to match my floors in any local store, so I tried Amazon and found this item. It comes curled up in a box which means you have to condition it to lay flat. I laid it out on the floor and put heavy objects on the ends to press it down. After several days it was flat. I cut off the excess by using a razor blade knife against my metal square so I would get a clean, straight cut. It was not too hard to cut, but muscle power was needed. I have an extension cord and speaker wires running thru it, so the inside capacity for wires was good. It also looks good on my floor. This item filled my needs perfectly. The middle channel is about 1/2 inches wide and 3/8 inches high and is accessible via a slit in the bottom. There are also channels on either side of the middle, but they do not have a split in them to feed a wire (see photo #2). If you use these other channels, I would suggest threading a small cord (fishing line?) with a small weight. Then attach your wire to the cord and pull it thru.

I gave this product five stars because it is exactly what I needed and expected based on the reviews of others. As others have stated, there are two primary complaints about this product so purchase this product only if these minor issues and/or remedies are acceptable to you. The product is made out of rubber that holds a memory when coiled while hot during the manufacturing process, especially at the core of the coil. This is very easily remedied by performing the following simple steps: 1. Remove product from packaging and place the entire coil in the sink without stretching it out. Put a stopper in the sink such that water won't drain out. 2. Heat a large stock pot full of water until it boils. 3. Using the appropriate personal protective equipment and taking all necessary safety precautions to prevent scalding, pour the boiling water over the coil and watch it magically return to its intended shape like a giant shrinky-dink snake. 4. Allow it to soak in the hot water for a few minutes. Then, remove it with some tongs, let it drip dry for a few seconds, and lay it out on the floor. The curl will be completely disappeared with less than 15 minutes of effort. The second complaint that most people have is that the ink from the product labeling on the underside is transferred to the visible part because it's coiled prior to allowing the ink to completely dry. It makes it look a bit dirty and scuffed upon cursory glance and you wouldn't know it was ink unless you got down on your hands and knees and looked closely. This appearance was acceptable to me, but in the interest of solving the problem I did a little experimentation and determined that you can make it look slightly better with a finish sander and a lot of time and patience. Please note that my results concluded that this method does remove the ink; however, instead of "appearing" scuffed and dirty it actually becomes scuffed and dirty. Given enough time, effort, and sandpaper you could probably get it to look pristine but in my opinion it really isn't worth that much time, effort, and sandpaper.

After reading all the negative reviews about ink bleeding through and the stuff not wanting to lie flat, I was a bit concerned. These folks were ordering relatively short lengths and I thought it might be different with a 50-foot roll. It certainly was. Not the faintest hint of bleed through and it immediately laid flat even after spending a few hours on the front porch on a cold day. The only negative is than it has a bit higher “crown” than I wanted but turns out that things still roll over it OK. The space for wires to go through is square-shaped and fairly tight. You can get at most four Ethernet patch cables to fit - which is enough for me.

It arrived super curled and wouldn't lay flat. Just like others reviewers have mentioned, I reverse curled and threw it in a pot of boiling water for about 5 minutes. When I took it out and placed it on the floor is was perfectly flat and stayed that way. It was easy to do and worked like a charm.

So right off the bat I noticed the same problems as everyone else seems to have - it refuses to lay flat, and the ink on the bottom transfers to the top. In my case, I bought the black one so color matching wasn't an issue and the ink on top can't be seen so that's not an issue either. As for not laying flat, that was a very easy fix. As others have mentioned, all you need is some hot water. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Take it off the heat and drop the cord protector in. Give it a couple minutes, then grab some tongs and pull it out, maybe shake some water out, and lay it flat. Give it a minute to cool, and problem solved! You could probably achieve the same result with a heat gun, but I didn't have one and the boiling water trick works perfectly. 15 minutes can save you a whole lot of frustration of curling edges or trying to return it. Now my power cord is out of the way and no longer an eye sore.

I did not expect any brown plastic to match perfectly with brown wood. With that it mind, it works very well with dark hardwood floors. PROS: • I was able to cover a very thick surge protector cord (14 AWG). • Although it is not as beautiful as my wood floor, it is infinitely better than the white power cord running along my baseboards. • It is heavy, so it lays flat. • It is trip-proof. • It is easy to clean • It is the best option available to cover wires that run along you floor • It is relatively inexpensive for something that will last forever (currently $24 for 15') • It cuts easily with a pair of scissors to make smaller lengths. CONS: • It is cheap plastic (but you knew that) • It looks cheap plastic (but you knew that). • It will probably not match any natural material, such as wood, stone, tile, etc. (but you knew that) • It is uncomfortable to step on while barefoot, because it is convex. It's not too bad while wearing shoes. I liked it so much that I purchased a second cover in the 50' length. I will run it behind my couch and cover lamp cords, an ethernet cable and speaker wires.

I purchased this item to cover two coaxial cables that run along the threshold of my mudroom door. Kids were always tripping over the cables. I searched for awhile to find the best product, and I'm glad I choose this one. It's a heavy material, that lies flat even without using the included adhesive. I was able to stuff both coaxial cables into the channel, though it did hurt my fingers- I had to stop and take a break for a bit before finishing the entire run of cable. It looks great along my flooring, better than seeing cables. Mine did not have any ink bleed onto the product, and the chemical smell went away within a couple days. If you have somewhere outside to let let it air out and lie flat for a day or so, I would recommend doing that. It would help with installation as well as the smell.

Bought this in gray to match the color of the front porch decking and conceal the extension cord for our Christmas lights. It works great and is exactly what I was hoping for. Unlike purchasers of other versions, I had no problem unrolling this one and getting it to lay flat. The middle portion lay flat with no additional effort, while the two ends required only a couple of books for 30 min. Getting the cord in the middle channel was simple -- put the cord where you want it, lay the cord protector beside it, turn the protector over and bend the two sides back while pushing the cord into the channel. It's easy to size the protector too. I used aluminum shears and cut through with no problem.

I received the product as described. Although I did read the reviews stating that it won't stay flat, I figured for the price, it wouldn't hurt to try out a technique. This is what I did to make it flat: - Remove strip from box, unroll, then roll it back in the opposite direction. - Put strip back into box and leave it in your car (or really hot place) for 3-4 hours. - Bring it back indoors into a cool place, unroll it, and lay it flat with objects on top. Once it cools, it'll stay flat. I didn't have to use the tape but I'm using it over carpet.
